The path of the nonconformist (Grey Witch)

Ive been doing some research online on the "grey path" and being a "grey witch"...also known as a "neutral witch", and it is actually not so simple to define. The reason being, its not meant to be defined!

Basically, a witch is a witch, no matter what color category you place them in. White, black, grey, pink, yellow....etc. Also, we have labels such as a kitchen witch, sea witch...and those are very nice to help you find out what kind of witch you are. But, when it all comes down to it...We all share the same blood and we are all witches... No matter what box we fit into.

So, if you dont feel like you fit into a category, then no worries! it is merely just there for you as a guideline...Branching off and discovering your true witchyness is a very exciting thing! Grey witchcraft is the practice of worship and magic which recognizes the importance of all polarities as legitimate and necessary without deception of the masses, the self, or the use of informational resources.

Grey witches practice balance and harmony, and they deny the concept that such things can occur without recognition of total and true polarity.

When you think about the color grey, its the mix between black and white. It represent the balance. a sort of yin and yang in witchcraft. The grey path embraces all the universe has to offer. Both need to exist because you cant have light with out dark...So being able to understand both sides is the ultimate experience. Being a Grey witch, means embracing the shadows as well as the light. Its not all fluffy rainbows and glitter. Its about walking that balance of darkness and light. The wiccan rede is a concept most grey witches do not adhere to. If someone harms them or those close to them, they will stop at no expense to defend and protect what is theirs. They walk their own path and make their own "karma", they decide their life. Its also more about your personal power rather than relying in a god or goddess all the time. Calling on your own will and magic rather than outside help. You cant have grey magic with out white and black magic right...its all about the balance of both. Which brings us to the concept of the "Left-Hand Path and Right-Hand Path". Which refer to a dichotomy between two opposing approaches to magic. This terminology is used in various groups involved in the occult and ceremonial magic. In some definitions, the Left-Hand Path is equated with malicious black magic and the Right-Hand Path with benevolent white magic. Black magic or dark magic has traditionally referred to the use of supernatural powers or magic for evil and selfish purposes. With respect to the left-hand path and right-hand path dichotomy, black magic is the malicious, left-hand counterpart of benevolent white magic. Like its counterpart white magic, the origins of black magic can be traced to the primitive, ritualistic worship of spirits. Unlike white magic, the rituals that developed into modern "black magic" were designed to invoke those same spirits to produce beneficial outcomes for the practitioner. White magic or light magic has traditionally referred to the use of supernatural powers or magic for good and selfless purposes. With respect to the left-hand path and right-hand path, white magic is the benevolent counterpart of malicious black magic. Because of its ties to traditional pagan nature worship, white magic is often also referred to as "natural magic". Modern definition maintains that the purpose of white magic is to "do good" or to "bring the practitioner to a higher spiritual state" of enlightenment or consciousness. Basically, what I have come to a conclusion is, that grey magic follows both selfless and selfish acts. You cant have one with out the other... It is a combination of both light and dark. Grey witches do not follow the "harm none" rule as black magic doesn't either. Because they believe in there own karma and that they control there own right from wrong. They do not go out and purposely wreak havoc like black magic entitles, but, should harm come to them by some outside force, then they will take action. They basically do follow a light path but take into consideration that there is a dark path, and they do like to acknowledge that fact and embrace it in the balance with light. when it all boils down to it, it comes back to being placed in that box. Light dark, good bad... No matter which side your on, its still magic, and your still a witch. And that is what being grey is all about. Finding that neutral space where you dont have to pick a side, and you just get to simply be. Embracing all forms of magic and abiding by your own rules. Living and breathing a witch that shoves that box aside and makes there own path!
